Jervaulx Abbey

  Jervaulx Abbey is a dramatic 12th. Century ruined Cistercian abbey founded in 1156, and set in 126 acres of parkland, plus tea room and visitor’s centre. Turner, as part of his 1816 tour in Yorkshire, visited the abbey and drew several sketches, among them images D40836, D11398, D11400, D10951 and
D11399: these can be found via the Tate website www.tate.org.uk
